Argos Information.
Here is some raw information about my city state Argos.
Type of government: Argos was mainly a Monarchy that changed into an Oligarchy. Soon after that Tyranny came along and it stayed this way for the rest of Ancient Greece. Type of education: The boys were required to learn to write a play, read and write, sing, and play instruments such as the Lyre. The girls were required to learn how to read and write, do basic house chores such as the laundry and cooking supper. Social Classes: Argos had a very rich and poor social class. There was a king and his royal subjects that were all beyond rich at the time. Of course then there was the slaves and the poor people who had to live off the livestock or the land. Neither were very reliable. There was a small percentage of people who made it into the middle class though. Usually the middle class was charged with larger taxes. Gods/Goddesses that Argos worshiped: Argos only really worshiped one god. Even though they believed in all of the Greek gods they liked the god of death the most his name was Thanatos. Type of economy (farming or fishing): Argos had a fishing and hunting economy because of the horrible soil they had in their location. The Daily Life: The daily life of Argos was full of art and crafts. People would go see plays and listen to wonderful music. Children would learn to work or read and write. There were slaves that spent their time hunting and farming, too. |
My city state laws:
1. Always be prepared for class with all needed materials. 2. Never interrupt the teacher or anyone else. 3. Eat candy or doughnuts at least one day of the week. 4. Turn in all assignments on time. 5. Participate in class. 6. Wear blue every Friday. |
Argos
From mountains of grey, to waters of blue, to the goddess of death everyday, to terrible soil too, Argos was wealthy, but some were still poor, the people were healthy, but still fell on the floor. Our family is in the middle class, making vases of glass. War was everywhere, the gods helps us so, the oracles gave them a scare, we were unhelpful you know. Plays of drama and fun, to the paintings of monsters and heroes, to statues of father and son, to the coin system of ten to zero. Our father worked hard to trade, for all the things we made. Not supporting Sparta or Athens, from their tyrants or assassins. Never supporting our fellow man, to win the wars at hand, Argos is our city state, we’re awesome, so don’t hate. |
More On Argos.
Our city state,Argos is famous for its wonderful plays and arts at that time. Most wouldn't enjoy it today though. Argos had warriors and hunted more often than farming. They had bad soil to grow vegetation on. We were also disgraced by most of the other city states because we refused to help anyone in battle by not donating any troops.

However we weren't the only ones who were shunned. Many of Greek polis's weren't united because of lack of trade and communication. Greece is filled with small mountains and long fierce rivers that cut off most activity from side to side. Not being able to communicate the polis's thought one another as invaders that must stay away from their land. Some found out that they were decent folk though like Sparta and Athens. They fought a whole war together!
